It has begun.
Day 4: July 1
3 Highlights:
- Four cars picked me up today as I hitchhiked from East Glacier to Canada. First, an Indian family with Sid. They drove seven miles too far and then left me again. Then there was the Quebec adventurer, working as a nurse with Native Americans, and a wild man himself at 29. Next, the Barcelona gang, reunited after meeting in Ushuaia ten years ago, including little Eric. They live in New York. Finally, Laura, the ranger contemplating the Camino de Santiago.
- Glacier views, absolutely stunning.
- Sofia’s tea warmed me right up.
Daily Summary:
- Distance hiked: 16 km
- Starting point: Chief Mountain
- Ending point: Elizabeth Lake
- Weather conditions: Sunshine and rain
Daily Reflections:
Today was a mix of sunshine and rain, much like my spirits. Feeling unwell made everything more challenging, from talking to hiking. Cramps hit me hard at camp, a reminder that my body is still adjusting.
Had a chipmunk attempt a food heist. I’m not sharing, buddy. To keep the bears at bay, I’ve been singing and mimicking a trumpet—quite a feat with a sore throat.
The scenery is breathtaking, truly a testament to nature’s grandeur. The people I meet are warm, kind, and often loving. It’s heartening to see the good in humanity, especially when feeling down.
Hitchhike 1 out of 4 to reach Chief Mountain border control
Diner in between hitchhikes
The desperation in my face prompted a ranger to drive me the last stretch (45 min) to the border
Norther terminus
Majestic mountain and river
Impressive waterfall
The first camp on the CDT, with bear boxes for food storage
Went to bed early to sleep of the fever I had caught over the last week of sleep deprivation and excitement

Härligt att du är ingång med vandringen. Hoppas du mår bättre snart. Imponerad att du hinner och orkar få ut uppdatering på webben. Kul att följa. Det ger mig mycket fin hågkomst av min start på CDT förra året
