Daily Reflections (challenges, insights, musings):
Ahh, the excitement of searching through the hiker box at the ranch for some extra sustenance. I found it—victory! My plan was simple: hike 3 km to the trailhead and if fortune smiled upon me with a hitch, I’d take it. Fortune smiled in the form of Dan, the fly fisherman.
Dan, a retired PE teacher and football and wrestling coach, regaled me with delightful stories about fishing and his students during our ride. Augusta, a quaint little town, was charming but unbearably hot. I spent too much time on my phone, but it was a joy to read about Argentina making it to the finals.
In town, I bumped into Too Late and Dabby. They informed me about a forest fire at the Benchmark trailhead that we need to circumvent tomorrow. Ah, the unpredictability of nature and hiking. Let’s see what adventure awaits us next.
