3 Highlights:

1 Cowboy camping again because who needs a tent when you’ve got Starlink?

2 Lunch in the shade: otherwise known as the Ritz of trail life.

3 Hunters gifting us water and expired protein bars—because nothing says generosity like “Best Before 2020.”

Daily Summary:

• Distance hiked: 47 km

• Starting point: km 4764

• Ending point: km 4808

• Weather: Hot, windy, because why not?

Daily Reflections:

The wind decided my tent wasn’t necessary last night, so I got creative with how little sleep a person needs to function. The morning started with a strong coffee that said, “Today, you won’t die.” Hunters rolled by on an ATV, casually dragging their trophy deer and offering water like they were the hosts of a desert game show. Expired protein bars were shared because we’re nothing if not daring.

The water caches? Fully stocked. The road walk? Long enough to regret not being a cactus. And then, 70 spots two javelinas, which I don’t see, so naturally, they don’t exist. The day ended with me wondering if I’d ever sleep without the sound of wind howling like it was auditioning for a horror movie. But the stars were nice, and I’m learning that’s enough. I got to see Musk’s Starlink sattelites fly by while flat on my cowboy back. Good night—or, let’s be real, good luck sleeping.
