Reflections (Challenges, Insights, Musings):

So, I actually slept well. You’d think that would mean the hike into Grants would be easy, right? Nope. The closer we got to town, the slower and tougher it felt—like the universe was stretching time just to mess with me. And don’t even get me started on the paved highway. It looked close, but it wasn’t. We passed a prison (comforting, right?) and then spent 4 miles walking through suburban purgatory.

By the time we reached the first restaurant—something like “Family Tacos”—I didn’t care what they were serving. Salad and coffee were all I needed. Afterward, it was time to deal with the post office. You’d think this would be straightforward. Think again.

I had to hike 5 km to pick up my guitar. After just 1 km, a local bus picked me up—apparently, they’ve been instructed to help hikers. Free ride! Take that, “No Hitchhikers” sign outside the prison.

But then… the post office. I’d paid Guitar Center extra for express shipping, and they sent it via UPS. Guess what? The U.S. Postal Service doesn’t accept UPS packages. Seriously? They sent the guitar back, and my other package hadn’t even arrived yet. Cue the meltdown.

After a 30-minute phone call with Guitar Center, I ordered a new guitar and paid to have it sent through USPS this time. The refund? Well, they’ll get around to that when they feel like it.

At least I found a nice café and enjoyed a cappuccino while dealing with this nonsense. Exchanged my worn-out socks for a new pair too—thanks, Darn Tough. One small victory.

Finally, I decided to stay in Grants for the night. A shower, some clean clothes, and a bit of Chinese food (leftovers from Ricky, the guy who gave me a lift) were just what I needed. I even trimmed my mustache and cleaned my ears—feeling like a new man.

Wrapped up the day by watching Messi’s game against Bolivia. Honestly, not how I expected the day to go, but at least I’ll be carrying less weight for the next stretch.

Good night.
