Burned forest everywhere I look
Bob Marshall Wilderness has a lot of burned areas
Bart and Richard: Montana cowboys
3 Highlights:
1. Fell on my bum in the river early on. When in doubt, just go in with the shoes.
2. Got lost and had to bushwhack for 45 minutes. Always backtrack to the trail—it’s the fastest and safest way.
3. Meeting Bart and Richard with their four horses at lunch. They were locals, true cowboys. Richard’s daughter had been to Sweden once. He had a huge gun—no bear spray needed.
Daily Summary:
• Distance hiked: 38 km
• Starting point: North Badger Creek
• Ending point: Gooseberry Guard Station
• Weather conditions: Hot
Daily Reflections:
Meeting people felt good, getting lost felt bad. Missing Bessy a lot. The Bob Marshall Wilderness has a lot of burned areas. Saw a dead mouse, an 80cm snake, and a deer. Had a standoff with a wild hen—she thought I was trouble. Maybe I would enjoy finding some hiking buddies. Feeling kind of lonely right now.
