Daily Reflections (challenges, insights, musings):
I started the day with a nice breakfast at Lankins. Although I had prepared a dry food meal from Tammy, I opted for a hot breakfast instead. The dry meal, which I regretfully stuffed back into my backpack, decided to leak and now my backpack smells like minestrone soup for the next 10 km.
The views today were nothing short of spectacular, with waves of mountains stretching out as far as the eye could see. It took me back to the Appalachian Trail, a beautiful but distant memory.
As the day came to a close, the sunset painted the sky in breathtaking hues. However, my tranquility was interrupted by the sight of smoke on the mountain. I called 911 at 21:00 and had a rather interesting conversation. Initially, a concerned lady insisted I get out of there immediately. Then, a more composed deputy assured me that they were aware of the situation and I was safe for now. He even mentioned that Sheriff Dutton said hi. Dutton… Yellowstone, of course.
On a brighter note, Lanski got her driver’s license today. I was thrilled, but our conversation was cut short when I asked about HM. She didn’t answer me after that, and I started wondering if she was upset.
Now, as I write this, I’m camping by a recent fire pit. The lingering smell is unpleasant, but I stretch and try to focus on the positives of the day.
