Reflections:

Sleep was elusive, even on the hotel floor. Morning was filled with hotel waffles, fruit, and a trip back to the Tranquilbuzz Café, where live music set a lively tone. There, we met up with Twilight, who joined us for breakfast. While enjoying the music, a man resembling Antonio Banderas in El Mariachi struck up a conversation, which left me feeling uneasy at first. Was he living on the street and only striking conversation to get something? I switched focus to my phone. I could’ve been more open and more generous, especially given how much I have received these last months. Before leaving the cafe I reconnected with him and wished him the best of luck.

Lunch was at a brewery, with a long-awaited salad and more live music. We left town by mid-afternoon under the scorching sun, trekking on asphalt for 20 km before hitting dirt roads. Trail magic came in the form of yogurt and kind words. That evening, I marveled at the stars and felt content listening to the desert crickets’ symphony. It was going to be a good night.
