Daily Reflections (challenges, insights, musings):
Woke up at 6:30 AM to find that Granite and Triple T were already packing up their tents, leaving me to play catch-up. Just as I was mentally preparing myself for a long day, I looked up and spotted a herd of wild horses—about 50 of them—grazing majestically in the morning light. Who needs coffee when you’ve got that kind of wake-up call?
Hiked with Granite and Triple T until noon before deciding to push for a longer day solo. The wind, of course, had other plans. It was relentless and a pain in the +#>$$.
By 7:30 PM, I stopped for a quick dinner as the sun started to dip below the horizon. I wasn’t sure if I’d keep going, but the wind and sandy trails made the decision for me. So, I pushed on into the night, each step feeling like I was walking on a giant beach that stretched for miles.
Finally, well past midnight, I found a spot to set up camp. Setting up a tent in sand is like trying to build a sandcastle with a leaf blower aimed at your face, but I managed to rig it up by tying the strings to some sage bushes. Let’s just hope I don’t wake up in Kansas. Good night!
